Available through Canvas Course Navigation and the RCEGetting started
- New to MediaPlus? Sign in to MediaPlus, open the Media area, and review the MediaPlus resources before uploading course or project media.
- Uploading video or audio? Select New Media, choose or drag files from your computer, review the acceptable content policy, accept it when your content meets the requirements, and upload the selected files.
- Using MediaPlus in Canvas? Enable MediaPlus in the course navigation menu if you want a course-level entry point, or use the MediaPlus app in the Canvas Rich Content Editor to embed media or playlists in Pages, Assignments, Discussions, Quizzes, and other Canvas content.
- Preparing media for students? Review captions and transcripts before publishing. New uploads receive automatic captions, and transcripts can be viewed, downloaded, edited, or shared through a public link.
- Ready to share? Use a public link for linked access or copy the embed code when you want media or playlists to appear directly inside Canvas content.
Activity examples
- Course media library. Upload lecture videos, demonstrations, interviews, or narrated presentations to MediaPlus, then organize them by course, module, or project.
- Canvas page with embedded video. Embed a MediaPlus video in a Canvas page and add surrounding instructions, links or reflection prompts so students can watch and respond in one place.
- Weekly playlist. Create a playlist for a week or unit so students can move through several related clips in the intended order.
- Caption and transcript review. After uploading a video, review the automatic captions and transcript, correct errors in names or technical terms, and save the updated version before students use it.
- Collaborative media management. Share editing access with a colleague, instructional designer or course builder who needs to help update titles, descriptions, thumbnails, captions, transcripts or sharing settings.
Compare your options
Explore the options available when using MediaPlus.
| Option | Use when | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Public link | You want students or colleagues to open a single media item or playlist from linked text in Canvas. | Choose whether the link never expires or should expire on a specific date. |
| Embed in Canvas | You want the video or playlist to play directly inside a Canvas page, assignment, discussion, or quiz. | After saving, test the page and confirm the media plays correctly. |
| Playlist | You need an ordered viewing experience for several media items. | Keep the playlist order current. Deleting the source media removes it from the playlist. |
| Collection | You need a private organizational folder for your own media management. | Collections help organize work, but they are not distributed to viewers. |
| Shared editing access | Another ASU user needs to help manage a media item. | Share with the user's ASURITE or transfer ownership only when the owner should change. |

Accessibility, privacy, and other considerations
Accessible Media
Captions and transcripts support equitable access to course media. MediaPlus automatically captions new uploads, but automatic captions and transcripts should be reviewed for accuracy, especially when content includes technical language, names, lyrics, background noise, or fast speech.
- For better automatic captions and transcripts, record in a quiet space, reduce background noise, keep a consistent microphone distance, and speak clearly
- Automatic captions are available
Sharing and access
Choose the sharing option that fits the teaching need. Public links can be permanent or set to expire, embedded media can be viewed wherever it is placed, and viewers cannot edit shared media. Use ASU-supported sharing options when course or student information is involved.
Content ownership
Media owners control editing access and ownership transfer. If a media item is deleted from the owner's account, it is removed from any collections or playlists where it appeared.
