iClicker

iClicker is ASU’s student response system for creating interactive learning activities. Getting started

New to iClicker?
Create an instructor account by searching for Arizona State University as your institution and signing in with your ASURITE. You can then access iClicker through the instructor website or download the iClicker Cloud desktop software.

After creating an account, you can sign in through your browser at iclicker.com or the iClicker Cloud desktop app. You might need to select "Sign in through your campus portal" in the bottom right of the sign-in window.

Connecting iClicker with Canvas?
Set up the Canvas integration to sync your roster and send eligible attendance or activity scores to the Canvas gradebook. Provide students with the appropriate account and course-joining instructions before syncing your roster. Review the iClicker roster and grade sync guide for detailed instructions.

Before using iClicker with students, run a practice session to confirm that your course, questions, student participation settings and Canvas connection work as expected.

Activity examples

  • Check understanding during class: Ask a multiple-choice, multiple-answer, short-answer, numeric or target question after introducing an important concept. Review the responses immediately and clarify the topic when needed.
  • Facilitate peer instruction: Ask students to respond to a conceptual question individually, discuss their reasoning with classmates and then respond again. Compare the results to identify changes in understanding.
  • Collect an exit response: End class with a short question about the most important idea students learned, a point that remains unclear or a topic they would like reviewed.
  • Administer a low-stakes quiz: Create a set of questions that students complete at their own pace during class. Use the results to assess preparation or identify concepts that need additional instruction.
  • Create a pre- or post-class activity: Use an iClicker Assignment for a reading check, practice activity, recorded-lecture response or post-class reflection that students complete outside of a live class session.
  • Ask students to identify part of an image: Use a target question to have students select a location on a diagram, graph, map, artwork, interface or other image.
  • Track class attendance: Use attendance within an iClicker Pro course when you also want to use polls, quizzes or assignments, or create an iClicker Pulse course when you only need students to check in.

FAQ

Students can participate using the iClicker Student mobile app or web app. Physical iClicker remotes may also be used for supported activities and question types. Tell students which participation method they should use and provide setup instructions before the first graded or attendance-tracked session.

The instructor website can be used to create courses, prepare activities and review results. Live polling can be run through supported web-polling options or the desktop software. The desktop software may be necessary when using certain classroom features or physical remotes.

iClicker offers optional location settings that can restrict mobile check-ins to the classroom area. Because device permissions and location accuracy can affect check-ins, tell students about the requirement in advance and establish a process for resolving legitimate attendance problems.

Yes. Polls can be used for ungraded practice, anonymous feedback, discussion or formative assessment. Instructors can also award points for participation rather than correctness.

Live polls support an anonymous mode. iClicker may record that a student responded without associating the content of the response with that student. Anonymous polling is useful for sensitive topics, feedback or questions where students may be reluctant to answer publicly.

iClicker Pro supports polls, quizzes, assignments, attendance and Canvas integration. iClicker Pulse is designed for attendance check-ins without engagement activities. Some ASU resources may refer to these options as Full Course and Attendance Only, respectively.
