Courses that weight their final grades based on percentage values, not by point total, can easily set up weighted grades in Canvas through the “Assignment” menu. Assignment Groups always display in the gradebook by percentage. In addition, Total grades that are weighted by percentage will only be displayed as a percentage.
**Assignment point values are still proportionally calculated in each assignment group. In other words, assignments worth more points in an assignment group will affect the group’s overall grade compared to a lower point-valued assignment (e.g. 50pts vs 10pts). Instructors who desire even score distributions in an assignment group, should set all points to the same value, such as 100 points**
**Assignment Groups can also NOT be weighted for point distribution. Please see other Quick Tips and resources for these steps**
